The Fashion Institute of Technology’s (FIT) BRAG CLUB was formed in the spring of 2001 by the national organization as a means to expand the organizations membership and to offer guidance and direction to the students at FIT. BRAG national accomplishes this by providing students with meaningful one-on-one mentoring, the chance to network, employment opportunities and also with scholarships awarded annually to students who have achieved academic success and who exhibit financial need.
The success of the FIT chapter has prompted the organization to expand this program to other colleges and universities who support the BRAG mission and vision statements. In the fall of 2007 Howard University and The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (LIM) added chapters to their roster of student clubs. BRAG fulfills its objectives for college chapters through the following BRAG College Club Mission Statement:
· To promote the inclusion, acceptance and participation of people of color at all levels of retail and related industries through a partnership with BRAG national.
· To provide students with employment and scholarship opportunities through BRAG national’s employment referral program, the scholarship program and the BRAG/CDC summer internship program.
· To support and enhance BRAG national’s community service outreach initiatives.
· To create a meaningful, mentorship association for students with professionals in retail, marketing, management, design, wholesale, finance, information technology, human resources, public relations, and other retail related fields through BRAG national.
· To help assure that the retail industry is responsive to the needs of minorities and is reflective of their numbers in the market place.
· To help provide continuous membership growth of BRAG national by preparing BRAG college club members to take leadership roles in BRAG national after graduation from college. |
BRAG hopes that with our college chapters we can continue to appeal to students to become active citizens and creative humanitarians so that everyone is privy to the fullness of the American dream.
