As a Senior Counsel, you play a critical role in demonstrating progress against Timberland’s long-term growth strategy to enable internal clients, associates, strategic partners, and VF’s shareholders as we position Timberland for growth. In this role, you will handle a broad range of corporate matters, including general corporate, contracts, advertising, marketing, product collaborations, intellectual property, licensing and distribution, support and advice for direct-to-consumer operations and oversee legal product design, development and quality reviews.
You'll be a trusted member of our team reporting to the Vice President, Brand General Counsel, and you’ll manage a Legal Assistant. You’ll also be a valued member of the VF Law Department and have the opportunity to work cross brand and provide expertise and support to specialized practice areas.
How You Will Make a Difference
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Support Brand General Counsel and independently provide legal advice and counsel to internal clients on all aspects of the law, including, but not limited to general corporate, business, marketing and advertising, agency, distribution, intellectual property, social media, product development and production matters.
Provide general legal counsel and assistance in a variety of substantive areas on tasks or projects such as reviewing, analyzing, drafting and amending contracts and other agreements in areas such as general corporate, marketing, product development and manufacturing.
Assume primary responsibility for supporting the following substantive legal areas: advertising and marketing, product collaborations, direct-to-consumer operations (bricks and mortar stores and e-comm), licensing and international distribution.
Manage trademark paralegal and provide primary trademark advice and support with assistance from the trademark paralegal.
Work with digital technology and data privacy colleagues to ensure Timberland brand operations are compliant.
Provide legal research and analysis and assist with litigation matters.
In addition to being a self-starter, highly organized and able to work well with individuals at all levels, as the ideal candidate, you will have:
Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+
Educational/ Position Requirements:
Juris Doctor (“JD”) degree from an ABA-accredited law school; with preference for candidates who were in the top 25% of their class at a top-tier law school
Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar/jurisdiction for a minimum 10 years
